Kolkata/UNI: An octogenarian was burnt to death in a fire that also destroyed his south Kolkata home at Regent Park in the wee hours on Wednesday, police said.

The residents of Baganpara at Regent Park woke up early after a scream and found the home of Kanak Gomes (80) was on fire.

They called the local police, who evacuated the old man to the Bangur hospital where he succumbed to death.

Police said the deceased was staying alone and the fire could have sparked from a burning candle.
