Kolkata: NHRC team investigating post-poll violence allegedly attacked in Jadavpur
Kolkata/IBNS: A team of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) visiting West Bengal to probe the incidents of post-poll violence in the state was allegedly heckled by locals while it was checking ground reality in southern Kolkata's Jadavpur area on Tuesday afternoon, reports said.
According to reports, the NHRC with Central force's security cover went to Nilsangha area near KPC Hospital in Jadavpur to visit alleged post-poll violence-hit houses when locals at a large number gheraoed them and allegedly assaulted the team members.

National Commission for Minorities (NCM) vice-chairman, Atif Rasheed, alleged that at least 40 houses at the locality had been destroyed in the large-scale post-poll violence.
"As a vice-chairman of the NCM and a member of the Calcutta High Court appointed committee to investigate post-poll violence in West Bengal, I went to Jadavpur with NHRC team to make a ground reality check, and we found that 40 houses have been destroyed in the violence and those are abandoned," NCM vice-chairman Atif Rasheed said.
"We and our security personnel were also attacked during our visit," Atif Rasheed added.

The NHRC team alleged that it had not received adequate security from local police and very few policemen were present there who were inactive during the attack.
