Kolkata: Loud explosion reported near Charu Market

Kolkata, May 8 (IBNS): Portion of an one-storey building collapsed after a major explosion at Hijatulla Lane area under Charu Market Police Station limits in south Kolkata on Monday afternoon, reports said.

According to reports, the incident took place at around 3:30 pm.

After being informed, fire and rescue operators, Disaster Management Group (DMG) personnel and local police rushed to the scene.

After preliminary investigation, a senior official of Kolkata Police told IBNS that a LPG cylinder might have exploded inside the house.

Locals alleged that an illegal LPG cylinder refilling unit was allegedly being run inside the house.

However, police have started investigation into the matter while none has been arrested so far in connection with the case.

No casualty has been reported in the explosion so far.
