Kolkata: CPI-M's protest march to Hazra ends at Esplanade

Kolkata, Jan 9 (IBNS): The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)'s rally to Hazra, protesting against Centre's demonetisation move and demanding immediate arrest of all influential persons involved in several financial scams, was stopped by the police in Kolkata's downtown Esplanade area on Monday evening.

The rally, led by CPI-M state secretary Surya Kanta Mishra, Left Front chairman Biman Basu, party MLA Sujan Chakraborty and CPI-M leaders Manab Mukherjee and Rabin Deb, started from Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC)'s headquarter at Esplanade.

Setting up barricades, a heavy police force stopped the march at Rani Rasmoni Avenue.

CPI-M leaders addressed party activist-supporters there and due to the hour long event, traffic in city's downtown area was partly disrupted.

At the conclusion of the rally, CPI-M leaders announced to call for a protest march to state administrative building at Nabanna in near future.
