Kolkata, Apr 18 (IBNS): Acting on specific source inputs, the Kolkata Police arrested three miscreants from different parts of the city since Monday evening and seized illegal firearms and ammunition from their possessions, officials said.

According to reports, one 31-year-old man, Nasim Ahmed alias Dulara, was held with illegal firearms on Monday at around 5:15 pm from Strand Road area near Princep Ghat under South Port Police Station limits.

"Nasim Ahmed, who is a resident of Garden Reach area and was arrested twice earlier in a robbery case at Burtolla Police Station in 2003 and in an Arms Act case at Park Street Police Station in last year, was booked from Strand Road area. Four improvised pistols, among which one was loaded with 4 cartridges, were recovered from his possession," a senior official of Kolkata Police told IBNS.

"After primary interrogation, we have come to know that he brought those firearms for selling to unknown persons(s)," the official added.

Based on Nasim's statements, police on Tuesday morning arrested two illegal firearms dealers, Pankaj Kumar Singh alias Sonu (28) and Md. Kalam (31), from the crossing of Arabindo Sarani and Jyotindra Mohon Avenue under Burtolla Police Station limits in north Kolkata.

"We seized one improvised double-shot firearm and one cartridge from the possession of Pankaj while two single-shot improvised pistols and three cartridges were recovered from Md. Kalam," the official said.

"They claimed that these firearms and ammunition were bought from Dulara for the purpose of further selling," the police officer further said.

However, the trio was produced in a city court on Tuesday and Nasim Ahmed was sent to police custody till Apr 26 while the remaining two, Pankaj Singh and Md. Kalam, were remanded to police custody till Apr 20.

Police, however, have started investigation into the case and are grilling the trio to nab others involved in the firearms trafficking racket, according to reports.
