Kolhapur: Two traders from Gujarat booked for cheating grape trader of Rs 56.67 lakh
The city police on Saturday registered a criminal case against two traders from Gujarat, who allegedly cheated a complainant-grape trader of Rs 56.67 lakh recently.
Accused Shajad Sheikh (of Ahemdabad) and Ahamad Khan (of Anand), both in Gujarat, contacted complainant Maruti Namdev Tengale, a grape trader and commission agent, who resided at Jamwadi of the district, and purchased total 550 tonnes of grapes worth Rs 1,78,81,582 from him and paid Rs 1,24,13,665 by giving him five cheques of the amount.
However, they did not make payment of the remaining amount of Rs 56,67,920 including labour charges of Rs two lakh to him, police said.
Despite many attempts by Tengale to get the remaining amount, both accused refused to heed his request.
After realising that he was being duped, Tengale rushed to the city police station and filed a complaint of cheating against both Sheikh and Khan.
Further investigation is underway, sources added.
