Kolkata/Kharagpur, Jan 13 (IBNS): Police on Friday arrested seven persons who are involved in Wednesday's Kharagpur shootout from several areas of West Medinipur and neighbouring state Jharkhand, officials said.

According to reports, besides nabbing seven accused, including one of the masterminds Shankar Rao, police seized a Tata Sumo car and a bike, used in the operation, from their possessions.

At least five firearms and several rounds of bullets were also recovered from the arrested.

"The plan was plotted in Jharkhand's Jamshedpur and Kharagpur and 11 miscreants conducted the shooting on Wednesday," West Medinipur SP Bharati Ghosh told IBNS.

The official said that four more accused in the case, two out of which are from outside and remaining duo is local, are still absconding.

"Eight persons went to the operation site by the Tata Sumo car, which was brought by 96,000 rupees from a local showroom, and three others went by a bike," Bharati Ghosh added.

The senior IPS official also said that there could be more masterminds, who planned the attack and used Srinu Naidu's enemies for execution.

Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, few miscreants reportedly hurled crude bombs and fires bullets indiscriminately at a Trinamool Congress (TMC) party office in Kharagpur, killing two men, including local TMC leader and rail-mafia A. Srinibasan Naidu alias Srinu Naidu and his close-aide V. Dharma, and leaving three others injured.

A local TMC leader accused BJP for the deadly shootout, while BJP leaders denied their involvement in the matter.
