Kerala mulls ban on alcohol sale
The government took a decision in its meeting that as many as 400 stand-alone bars which had lost their licenses last year, for failing to meet basic standards, would not be able to apply for renewal, even if they promise better services.
Another 300 bars whose licenses are slated to expire next year will not be given any extensions too.
Sources said the government was also considering a proposal to turn Sundays into dry days across the state.
Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, however, said that rehabilitation and reemployment plans are being readied by his government for people who will be hit by the new alcohol policy in India’s hardest drinking state.
