Kochi (Kerala): An Air India crew has been apprehended at the Kochi airport with 1,487 grams of gold, media reports said.

The crew, identified as Shafi, is a resident of Kerala’s Wayanad, news agency ANI reported.

The Customs officials arrested him on Wednesday following secret information that he was carrying illegal gold.

The Customs Preventive Commissionerate learned that Shafi, a cabin crew member of the Bahrain-Kozhikode-Kochi service, was bringing gold.

The officials said that he was planning to smuggle the gold wrapped around his wrists under his shirt sleeves and pass through the green channel, said the report, adding that he is being further interrogated.
