Kaziranga flood: Animals move to neighbouring hills, Special Rhino Protection Force personnel deployed to combat poachers

Guwahati, Jul 14 (IBNS): Due to the devastating flood in Assam, more than 75 percent areas of the Kaziranga National Park and its 95 forest camps were submerged by flood waters.

The wild animals in the park have moved outside the park to the hills of neighbouring Karbi Anglong district after most of the areas in the park were submerged by the flood waters.

The wild animals including hog deer, elephants have moved to the neighbouring hills by crossing the National Highway 37 passing through the park.

The park authority has introduced a time card to restrict the speed of the vehicles and prevent any animal casualty.

On the other hand, the Assam forest department has deployed 82 jawans of Special Rhino Protection Force in Kaziranga National Park to protect one-horned rhinoceros.

The personnel of the Special Rhino Protection Force equipped with sophisticated weapons have been deployed in the park to combat poachers.

Assam forest department PRO Sailen Pandey said that the personnel of the Special Rhino Protection Force are well trained and they can use 22 types of modern sophisticated weapons.

During the flood, poachers usually target the rhino of the park.

The Assam forest department PRO said that the state forest department and the park authority are fully alert to prevent any such type of incident.

“A 82-member Special Rhino Protection Force has been formed to protect rhinos. They are well trained and can use 22 types of sophisticated weapons. We ensured that none of the poacher can enter in the Kaziranga National Park. Poaching is more effective during the flood season,” Sailen Pandey said.

Over 14 lakh people of 25 districts of the state have been affected in the current flood.
