Kashmir Valley: SMS facility restored

New Delhi/IBNS: The government restored mobile short message service (SMS) facility in the Kashmir Valley from Tuesday midnight.

This move ended the 150-day restriction imposed on the SMS facility in the Valley.

The government had disconnected mobile phone, internet and broadband services in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir on Aug 4.

“SMS services will be restored from midnight, December 31, in Kashmir Valley," Rohit Kansal, J&K Principal Secretary, told media on Tuesday.

The announcement was made just days after mobile internet services were restored in Kargil region.

Kargil now falls under the union territory of Ladakh.

The measures were announced by the Indian government months after mobile phone services were suspended following the abrogation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir on Aug 5 by the Centre.

The politically crucial Indian state was divided into two union territories Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
