Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar congratulated police and other security forces for conducting a successive operation without any collateral damage.

A police spokesman said that following specific information about the presence of militants in the forest at Nagberan-Tarsar Tral in Pulwama, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police, and CRPF launched a joint search operation in the wee hours on Saturday.

However, he said when security forces were moving towards a particular area militants hiding there fired at them with automatic weapons.

“The security forces retaliated ensuing in an encounter,” he said.
