Kashmir: Modi inaugurates 240 MW Uri-II Hydro Electric Project
Srinagar, July 4 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated 240 MW Uri-II Hydro Electric Project here.
Addressing a gathering on the occasion, the PM said the government has laid stress on environment-friendly energy of which hydro power is an important constituent.
He said J&K has a potential of producing 13-14 thousand MW clean and environment-friendly energy for which he said, all the efforts would be channelized.
Modi said J&K is on the path of development and progress and he visualized many big mile stones in coming day.
He also announced upgradation of local Kendraya Vidalya from High School to Higher Secondary School for which admissions would be starting from the coming session.
J&K Governor N. N. Vohra, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Union Minister
of State for Power Piyush Goyal were present on the occasion.
Earlier in the day, Modi flagged off a 25 km long Udhampur- Katra railway link by giving the green signal for the Vaishno Devi Express (which he suggested to rechristen as Shreeshakti Express), which would take commuters and pilgrims to the base camp of Vaishno Devi at Katra now on.
However, Modi's visit to the Kashmir Valley observed a complete shutdown on Friday on call of separatists.
Shops, educational institutions, public transport and other businesses remained closed in Srinagar and other major towns of the Valley in response to the separatist call
Later in the day, the PM along with other cabinet ministers flew back to Delhi.
