Srinagar, Jun 28 (UNI ) A militant was killed by security forces on Friday in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the central Kashmir district of Badgam on Friday, official sources said.

Meanwhile, mobile internet service in Badgam has been suspended as a precautionary measure to prevent spread of rumours.

They said on a tip off about the presence of militants at Kralpora Chadoors in Badgam troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation on early Friday morning.

However, when the search party was moving towards a particular place in the area, militants hiding there opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons, they said, adding that the security forces also retaliated, ensuing in an encounter.

According to a police spokesman, a militant was killed and operation was still going on when the reports last came in. Meanwhile, additional security forces and state police personnel have been deployed in the adjoining areas to prevent any demonstration.
