Bengaluru/IBNS: The Karnataka High Court Friday agreed to hear a plea filed by Aaj Tak TV news anchor Sudhir Chaudhary seeking quashing of the FIR registered against him and asked Bengaluru police to not take any precipitative action against him.

The case refers to the alleged misinformation spread regarding a government scheme by the anchor in a programme aired on Aaj Tak on September 11.

"I am going to hear the matter. This matter is to be disposed of. I cannot keep it pending. I need time to hear the matter till Tuesday," the High Court bench said.

The matter has been posted to September 19.

The allegations were first made by Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge. He alleged that the anchor implied that the scheme was meant only for minorities.

Kharge had warned of legal action against the anchor.

Reacting to Kharge's comments, Chaudhary had said he was ready for the legal fight.

An FIR was filed against Chaudhary and Aaj Tak for offences under Sections 153A and 505 of the India Penal Code.
