Shivamogga/UNI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the loss of lives in an incident of a stone quarry blast, which took place at the outskirts of Shivamogga in Karnataka last night killing eight people and injuring several others.

The PM on Twitter said, "Pained by the loss of lives in Shivamogga. Condolences to the bereaved families".

He also assured to secure all possible assistance to the affected in the incident.

Meanwhile, Chief minister BS Yediyurappa, expressing shock over the incident, had sought an immediate report over the incident and had also ordered for a high-level inquiry into the incident.

The high-intensity blast took place near Hunasodu village located in the outskirts of the city, and the entire truck, which was carrying the blasting material tore to pieces.

All the victims were reportedly hailed from Bihar, and working at the stone crushing site as labourers, the sources added.
