Gwalior, Jun 24 (UNI) Commemorating the 20th anniversary of Indian Air Force (IAF) strike on Tiger hill during the Kargil war, the IAF on Monday organised a seminar on ‘Air operations in Kargil war, Lessons learnt and way forward’ at Air Force Station, here.

On June 24,1999, the Mirage-2000 fighter jets used the Laser Guided Bomb(LGB) on Tiger hill during Kargil war.

The focus of this seminar was conduct of air operation at high altitudes by fighters, transports and helicopters of IAF employing contemporary equipment and innovative strategies.

It highlighted the importance of synergy and integration of IAF with other defence services in undertaking high altitude operations.

Presentations by distinguished speakers on wide range of subjects like fighter attacks on Muntho Dhalo and Tiger hill, helicopter operas during Kargil war and utilisation of Laser Designation Pods by M-2000 aircraft formed a part of the event.

To mark this glorious event, a fly past by various aircraft like Su-30MKI, M-2000, MiG-21 BISON, Jaguar and Advanced Light Helicopter were undertaken.

During Kargil war, the IAF commenced air operations in the morning of May 26, 1999 by attacking the enemy positions and supply lines using MiG-21, MiG-27 ML and MiG-23 BN fighters. The operation called ‘Safed Sagar’ proved critical in deciding the result of war in favour of India.

The seminar was attended by serving and retired Air Force officers, who had participated and were awarded for their contribution during the Kargil war, while it was concluded by Gwalior Air Force station Air officer Commanding Air Commodore Vikram Gaur.
