Kannada actor Kiccha Sudeep to campaign for BJP; no plans to join party

| @indiablooms | Apr 06, 2023, at 12:34 am

Bengaluru/IBNS Contrary to earlier speculations, Kannada actor Kiccha Sudeep on Wednesday clarified that he has no plans to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), but campaign for it in the runup-to the May 10 assembly polls in Karnataka.

"I have come here to announce my support to Basavaraj Bommai, whom I adore and call Mama (uncle) with affection and respect. Bommai Mama has stood by me during my difficult times," he told reporters here.

Giving more clarity on Sudeep's comments, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who was also present at the press conference, said his support would mean that he is campaigning for BJP in the upcoming polls.

Bommai said Sudeep pledged to back the BJP on his own, and he did not belong to any political party.

This clarification comes in the wake of BJP insiders speculating about Sudeep joining the BJP later in the day.

Sudeep shares a very good bond with Bommai's family as he claimed that it was the CM who helped him during his bad days.

The upcoming elections for the state assembly in Karnataka are scheduled to be held on 10 May, with the counting of votes taking place on May 13.
