Jammu, Jun 10 (UNI): Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and NC vice-president Omar Abdullah on Monday hailed the verdict of Kathua case in which six persons were convicted and one acquitted.

Hailing the court verdict, JKPCC chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma said that the law of land has prevailed and those found guilty have been punished.

Reacting to judgment of Special Court at Pathankot today, JKPCC has said that speedy trial and judgment in the heinous crime convicting 6 out of 7 accused has strengthened the faith of people in the criminal justice system, especially judiciary.

Mr Sharma said that the most heinous crime against minor girl had shaken the conscience of every human being and all those who stood for justice to the victim.

However those who exploited the situation arising out of this heinous crime for their vested interests need to explain their respective conducts, as certain political forces and individuals played dirty role in the entire shameful incident and the situation took very ugly turn damaging the secular fabric of our society.

Former chief ministers of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti also welcomed the verdict.

While Mr Abdullah called for severe punishment for the convicted, Ms Mufti hoped that loopholes in judicial system would not be exploited.

Mr Abdullah warned against playing politics with Bank

“Amen to that. The guilty deserve the most severe punishment possible under law. And to those politicians who defended the accused, vilified the victim & threatened the legal system no words of condemnation are enough. #KathuaRapeCase,” he said in a tweet.

“Welcome the judgement. High time we stop playing politics over a heinous crime where an 8 year old child was drugged, raped repeatedly & then bludgeoned to death. Hope loopholes in our judicial system are not exploited & culprits get exemplary punishment,” former chief minister Ms Mufti said in a tweet.
