Srinagar, Jun 17 (IBNS): An Army vehicle was on Monday attacked with an improvised explosive device in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama, a place where the convoy of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was attacked by a suicide bomber in February resulting in the death of 40 paramilitary personnel.

No casualty has been reported in the incident.

According to reports, an encounter is under way in the area.

Terrorists reportedly attacked the armoured vehicle of the 44 Rashtriya Rifles near the Arihal village of Pulwama.

The vehicle was damaged in the attack, which was followed up by firing and stone pelting.

In a statement, the Army called the attack a "failed attempt" by terrorists.

The Army stated that all the personnel are safe barring a few minor injuries.

The area has been cordoned and search operations are in progress.

Earlier in the day, an Army officer and a militant were killed while three soldiers were injured in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in this south Kashmir district on Monday.

Official sources said that following specific information about presence of militants at Bidroo Akingam in Anantnag, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search operation early this morning.

The sources said a militant was killed and his body was recovered, adding arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site.

However, when security forces were searching the area there was fresh firing from militants still hiding there. Four soldiers, including two officers, were injured in the exchange of fire, who were later shifted to Army hospital.
