Jaya meets Modi, presents memorandum
She met the PM at the Prime Minister’s Office in South Block here at 3.30 P.M. The meeting lasted for 50 minutes.
The Tamil Nadu CM greeted Modi on his assumption of office as the Prime Minister of India by presenting a bouquet.
She presented a memorandum to Modi stressing on the need for a Cauvery Management Board and a monitoring mechanism to ensure that the state gets its rightful share of water throughout the year.
"Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu presented a Memorandum to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India containing the issues relating to Inter-State River Water Sharing including the Cauvery and Mullai Periyar, Sri Lankan Tamils, Restoration of the traditional fishing rights of Tamil Nadu Fishermen, grant of the Digital Addressable System license for the Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation, Infrastructure specifically Power, Urban Infrastructure and Services, Metro Rail, Transport and Industrial Infrastructure, Modernisation of the Police Force and Declaration of Tamil as an official language," the Tamil Nadu government said in a statement.
The Chief Minister explained briefly about the important issues which are crucial to protecting Tamil Nadu’s interests and to ensure rapid development of the state.
Modi has assured her of early action on the issues raised in the Memorandum.
She met Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in his office here.
" The Chief Minster of Tamil Nadu Ms. J. Jayalalithaa called on the Union Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley in his office here today. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minster discussed the financial issues relating to the State of Tamil Nadu with the Finance Minister and senior officers of the Ministry of Finance including Dr. Arvind Mayaram, Finance Secretary and Shri Ratan P. Watal, Expenditure Secretary among others. The Chief Minister was accompanied by the Chief Secretary and other senior officers of the State of Tamil Nadu," the Ministy of Finance said in a statement.
Jayalalithaa boycotted Modi's swearing-in ceremony on May 26 in the wake of his invite to Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa to attend the function.
