Jammu and Kashmir: SPO goes missing alongwith weapon

Srinagar/UNI: A Special Police Officer (SPO) of Jammu and Kashmir police is reported missing alongwith an Ak 47 rifle from a police post in south Kashmir district of Kulgam since Tuesday, official sources said.

SPO identified as Mohammad Sikander Malik, a resident of Ahgar Yaripora Kulgam has gone missing from a police post in Kulgam since last evening.

A massive hunt has been launched to trace him, the sources said, adding that naka checkings have also been set up. However, so far he has not been traced.

Police have registered a case and initiated action.

Over a dozen SPOs and Army soldiers have deserted their posts in the Kashmir valley alongwith weapons.

However, many of them were arrested and several others killed in encounters by the security forces.
