Jammu and Kashmir: Road Safety Action Plan reviewed at Kupwara

Srinagar: Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Anshul Garg today convened a meeting of the Road Safety Committee to review the implementation of the District Road Safety Action Plan in the district, a press statement said.

The Deputy Commissioner directed R&B, PMGSY and BEACON authorities to identify black spots/ blind curves on roads in their respective jurisdictions and ensure erection of signage, speed breakers and lights so that road accidents are checked.

He also asked the ARTO to conduct awareness programmes for drivers and ensure timely activation of flying squads by Traffic Police for checking overloading in commercial vehicles, use of mobile phones and listening to music by drivers while driving.

The ARTO was also instructed to ensure periodical health check-ups including eye sight and hearing tests of drivers.

The Deputy Commissioner asked the Chief Medical Officer to keep first aid facilities available on road side dispensaries and health centres.

It was also stressed upon the concerned officers to remove hoardings on roadsides which hamper the smooth movement of traffic.

Municipal Committees were asked to make necessary planning for traffic signals in Kupwara and Handwara towns. The ARTO was nominated as Officer In-charge to compile the Action Plan.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner, Handwara, Nazir Ahmad Mir; Chief Education Officer, Chief Medical Officer, ARTO, District Information Officer, Executive Engineers and other concerned were present in the meeting.
