Ceasefire Violation

Jammu and Kashmir: Pakistan again violates ceasefire

Srinagar/UNI: Pakistan troops again violated ceasefire and resorted to unprovoked shelling and firing, targeting forward Army posts and civilian areas at the Line of Control (LoC) in the frontier district of Kupwara in north Kashmir on Tuesday.

A Defence Ministry Spokesperson said Pakistan troops initiated Unprovoked Ceasefire Violation (CFV) along the LoC in Machhal and Gugaldhar sectors in Kupwara. Mortars and other weapons were used by them to target forward posts and civilian areas. However, there was no report of any loss of life or damage to property, he said adding Indian troops also retaliated effectively.

Meanwhile, senior Army and police officials have recently said that Pakistan troops were violating ceasefire to provide a cover to militants in launch pads at LoC to sneak into this side before the infiltrating routes were closed due to snowfall.

Large number of trained militants were waiting in launch pads to enter this side under the cover of ceasefire violation. However, they further said Indian troops equipped with modern gadgets were keeping a close watch to foil any such attempt.

Troops guarding the LoC have so far foiled majority infiltration attempts and neutralised militants immediately after they sneak into this side in north Kashmir valley this year. However, some militants had managed to enter the valley, police officers said.
