Srinagar/UNI: An unidentified militant was killed by security forces in an encounter in the central Kashmir district of Badgam on Saturday, police said.

On a specific information, Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police, Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and CRPF launched a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at Mochwa on Srinagar-Charar-e-Sharief road in Badgam district in the wee hours of Saturday, a police spokesman said.

He said an encounter ensued when militants hiding in the area opened fire when security forces were sealing the area.

An unidentified militant was killed and one AK rifle and a pistol were recovered from the slain militant, he said adding search operation was still going on when the reports last came in.

Meanwhile, additional security forces have been deployed in the adjoining areas to prevent any law and order problem.
