Jammu and Kashmir: Gun battle rages near LoC in Kupwara

Srinagar: An encounter is underway between militants and security forces near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday, police said.

The encounter erupted during the wee hours of Friday at Jumagund area of LoC following specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

“As the joint parties of Army and Police reached the particular spot, militants opened fire and the security forces effectively retaliated, triggering the encounter”, they said.

The joint team of security forces are on the job and further details shall follow, police said.

“An encounter has started between terrorists and joint parties of Army & Police on a specific input of Kupwara Police in Jumagund area of LoC of Kupwara district. Further details shall follow”, a police tweet said.
