Jammu and Kashmir: Alert troops foil PAK BAT action, infiltration bid at LoC in Kashmir

Srinagar/UNI: Alert troops on Wednesday foiled suspect Pakistan Border Action Team (BAT) action and infiltration bid by militants at Line of Control (LoC) in the frontier district of Kupwara in north Kashmir, a Defence Ministry spokesman said this afternoon.

He said troops guarding the LoA noticed suspected BAT action in Tangdhar sector early this morning. Troops immediately swung into action and foiled BAT action, he said.

Early this morning, troops observed suspicious activity of three to four intruders near a forward post along the LoC. However, timely action by alert troops averted infiltration bid, he said adding a massive search operation has been launched and entire area is under surveillance.

He said operation is under progress. However, no contact was established with the militants.

Troops foiled two attempts by Pak to send arms and ammunition into Kashmir valley during the past two weeks and recovered large cache of arms and ammunition at the LoC.

Senior Army and police officials have recently said that there are about 250 militants waiting at launch pads in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) to cross into Kashmir valley before the infiltration routes are closed due to snowfall. They said Pakistani troops are violating ceasefire to facilitate infiltration of militants from PoK.

However, troops are already on high alert to foil any infiltration attempt.
