New Delhi/Chennai, May 16 (IBNS) : The Income Tax department on Tuesday conducted raids and surveys at 22 locations in Delhi and adjoining areas on the premises of companies and individuals connected with Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on charges of alleged benami deals worth Rs 1,000, media reports said.

The raids coincide with the CBI search being  conducted  at the residences of ex-Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram in Chennai.

The reports quoted IT officials as saying that the raids were being  conducted in the premises of some prominent businessmen and real estate agents in Delhi, Gurgaon, Rewari and few others.

Searches were conducted also at the  premises of the son of RJD MP P C Gupta.

The BJP had last week accused Lalu Prasad, his MP-daughter Misa Bharti and his two sons, both Bihar Ministers of indulging in corrupt land deals worth over Rs 1,000 crore.

The  RJD is a constituent of Bihars's ruling grand coalition led by Nitish Kumar.

According to reports, the CBI raids on the residences of P Chidambaram and his son in Chennai started early morning.

His son Karti Chidambaram is facing money laundering probe in connection with the Aircel-Maxis deal.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) in April had issued show-cause notice to Karti over alleged violations of the FEMA laws .

P Chidambaram had served as the Finance Minister during the tenure of the UPA government.
