Israel carries out air strikes on Gaza

Gaza City, July 15 (IBNS): After the truce failed, Israel carried out air strikes on Gaza on Tuesday, reports said.

" Israel had earlier accepted an Egyptian ceasefire proposal and halted operations on Tuesday morning," BBC reported.

The armed wing of Hamas rejected  the move.

There were no immediate reports of any casualty even as 192 people have been killed in the past eight days of Israeli air strikes.

Concerned about more civilian casualties in a possible Israeli military incursion into Gaza, senior United Nations humanitarian officials on a visit to the area called on Monday  for an immediate return to calm and a ceasefire to avoid further loss of life.

“We must once again remind all parties that they must strictly adhere to international humanitarian law,” the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in the occupied Palestinian territory, James Rawley, said alongside the Commissioner-General of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Pierre Krähenbühl.

He noted the need to fully respect the principles of distinction between civilians and combatants, proportionality, and taking precautions to avoid civilian casualties.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday voiced his concern over the situation between Israel and Palestine.

"India is also concerned, at the recent outbreak of violence between Israel and Palestine. We support, a negotiated solution," the Indian PM said while  at the 6th BRICS Summit
