New Delhi/IBNS: India on Wednesday crossed the 6-lakh mark in terms of the total number of coronavirus cases, now roughly being 50,000 cases behind Russia.

With a massive addition of fresh infections from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Delhi, the country's present tally mounted up to  6,00,032.

In the global parameter, India is only behind the United States, Brazil and Russia in terms of the worst-affected nations of the pandemic.

Russia presently has 6,53,479 cases and is preceded by Brazil, which has more than 14 lakh cases and the US, having over 26 lakh infections.

India's figure stood at 5,66,840 this morning but with the addition of a whopping 18,522 new infections, it had crossed 6 lakh cases.

According to reports, Maharashtra added 5,537 cases to the tally, Tamil Nadu 3,882 and Delhi 2,442 during the day.

The spike comes as the government on Monday announced further relaxation of the social distancing norms as a part of Unlock 2.
