Indian Railways launches unprecedented, intensive Ops to prevent COVID 19

New Delhi/UNI:  Indian Railway, the lifeline of the country has initiated an unprecedented and intensified operations to contain the spread of deadly Novel Corona virus.

Under this operation, the trains and station premises throughout the country have been fumigated and the blankets and curtains of Air conditioned Coaches (AC Coaches) are being removed.

According to the Railway officials, the cleanliness and fumigation operations have been initiated at all divisional and zonal headquarters of the rail network. Most of the train coaches have been getting cleaned minutely in Railway yards whereas the deep corners of seats/births, window, mirrors water taps in toilets and handles at the gate of the coaches are being disinfected and sanitized with a special chemical solutions.

“Similar steps have been taken at the station premises for railings of the escalators, foot over bridges, benches at the platform, water booths, toilets, doors ,knobs and switches and these are being sanitized by steam cleaners”,the officials.

The officials also said that it has been ensured the use of sanitisers in the Driver’s and Guard’s lobby and passengers are being aware by the regular passengers’ announcements system in all Rail Divisions whereas the AC coaches are being kept on above 35 degree celsius heat and then cooled once these coaches are properly sanitized and fumigated.

Apart from these, the North Central Railway, Northern Railway and Western Railway have withdrawn the blankets and curtains from all AC coaches till April.

The officials also said that in view of the spread of Corona Virus, the passengers will be provided with the bed sheets only and the general temperature of the coach will be fixed at 25 degree Celsius. Additional bed sheets will be provided to the passengers if needed.

Railway has also appealed the passengers to bring their own blanket because of it is unable to clean the blankets being provided to the passengers.
The Ministry is also contemplating to create make shift quarantine at important stations .
