6 yr-old Indian-origin girl assaulted in Ireland in racist attack

Dublin: A six-year-old girl of Indian origin was brutally assaulted by a group of boys outside her home in Waterford, Ireland, in what appears to be a racially motivated attack, media reports said.

The boys allegedly hurled slurs such as “Go back to India” and physically assaulted her, including striking her in the private parts.

The child’s mother, a nurse who has lived in Ireland for eight years and recently obtained Irish citizenship, said the family is shaken and living in fear following the incident.

“She told me five of them punched her in the face. One of the boys pushed the bicycle wheel onto her private parts, and it was sore. They said the F word and Dirty Indian, go back to India,” the mother told The Irish Mirror.

She said the group of boys, believed to be between 12 and 14 years old, attacked her daughter while she had stepped inside briefly to feed her 10-month-old baby.

“I saw the gang afterward. They were staring at me, laughing. They know I am her parent,” she added.

When the child came back inside, the mother said she was visibly shaken. “She was upset, couldn’t even talk, and was so scared.”

This is believed to be the first documented case of a racist assault on an Indian-origin child in Ireland.

It comes amid a spate of unprovoked attacks targeting Indian nationals in the country.

Earlier this week, the same child was reportedly assaulted by a group of children in what appears to have been another racially charged incident.
