New Delhi/IBNS: India, the worst Covid-19-affected Asian country, will run 80 new special trains amid the pandemic from Sept 12, media reports said.

The reservations for the trains will begin on Sept 10.

These 80 trains will run along with 230 trains which are already in operation, said Railway Board chairman VK Yadav as reported by several media.

Yadav said the trains will run whenever there remains a demand from any state government regarding examinations or similar purposes.

The central government has already given nod to the resumption of metro services from Sept 7, giving a huge relief to lakhs of office goers in several major cities of the country.

Even in the fourth phase of Unlock or Unlock 4, India is adding over 80,000 infections, the most in the world, on a daily basis.

India on Saturday reported the biggest daily-spike in Novel Coronavirus cases by adding over 86,000 fresh infections in the last 24 hours.

With 86,432 cases, India's Coronavirus tally has touched 40,23,179.

As 1,089 Covid patients have succumbed to the virus in 24 hours between Friday and Saturday mornings, the toll has touched 69,561.
