India sends 2200 metric tonnes of rice to Myanmar as part of humanitarian assistance

India on Saturday 2,200 metric tonnes of rice to Myanmar as a humanitarian assistance, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.

"n line with ’s 'Act East' & 'Neighbourhood First' policies, India reaffirms its commitment to humanitarian assistance to the people of Myanmar,"Jaiswal posted on X.

"A consignment of 2200 MT of rice departed Chennai Port today for Myanmar," he said.

India has responded promptly and effectively to assist Myanmar in humanitarian relief operations following natural calamities like Cyclone Mora (2017), Komen (2015), earthquake in Shan State (2010), cyclone Nargis in 2008 and the recent outbreak of Influenza virus in July-August 2017, when we are providing vaccine, medicines, reagent kits and masks.

As per India's Embassy to Myanmar, New Delhi provided immediate relief material through INS Gharial: clothing, tents, rehabilitation supplies medical assistance, among others during cyclone Mora.
