India, Japan working together to create a better planet: PM Modi

Vladivostok: India and Japan are working at the regional and global levels to help "create a better planet", Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday.

"Delighted to meet PM Shinzo Abe in Vladivostok. We had in-depth discussions on a wide range of subjects, particularly bettering trade and cultural relations between our nations," Modi tweeted after bilateral talks with his Japanese counterpart.

"Our countries are also working together on various global forums to create a better planet," he said.

In a tweet on the bilateral talks between the two leaders, MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar said: "A global partnership reinforced by robust bilateral ties".

Kumar said both the leaders discussed deepening multi-faceted ties in economic, defence and security, start-up & 5G areas and exchanged views on regional situation.

Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale said that during the meeting, the Japanese leader referred to the recent visit of Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to Japan in which substantial issues have been discussed about mutual cooperation.

"He hoped that some of the discussions would also lead to outcomes," Gokhale said.

Modi also held meetings with Mangolian President Khaltmaagin Battulga and Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad and discussed regional, global and bilateral issues with both leaders.
