India gives approval to Johnson & Johnson's single-dose Covid vaccine

New Delhi: India on Saturday gave approval to US pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson's single-dose COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted: "India expands its vaccine basket! Johnson and Johnson’s single-dose COVID-19 vaccine is given approval for Emergency Use in India. Now India has 5 EUA vaccines. This will further boost our nation's collective fight against #COVID19."

India now have five vaccines to combat the disease.

Apart from this one, the other four are Serum Institute's Covishield, Bharat Biotech's Covaxin, Russia's Sputnik V and Moderna.

Vaccination in India:

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage achieved a significant milestone of 50 Cr on Friday.

More than 51.66 crore (51,66,13,680) vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far, through all sources and a further 55,52,070 doses are in the pipeline, as per statement released by the Ministry of Health on Saturday.

Of this, the total consumption including wastages is 49,74,90,815 doses (as per data available at 8 AM today).

More than 2.29 Cr (2,29,36,394) balance and unutilized COVID Vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs and private hospitals to be administered.
