In support of CAA, PM Modi tweets Sadhguru's video describing 'historical context' of citizenship law
New Delhi/IBNS: In support of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday tweeted a video of spiritual guru Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev who gave a historical context of the newly made Act which will grant citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi but not Muslim refugees who came to India from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan before 2015.
Modi captioned the video saying, "Do hear this lucid explanation of aspects relating to CAA and more by @SadhguruJV. He provides historical context, brilliantly highlights our culture of brotherhood. He also calls out the misinformation by vested interest groups."
In an almost 22-minute video, Sadhguru touched upon the historical context of the refugee crisis in India emphasising on the liberation war in 1971 which led to the creation of Bangladesh.
Also, the spiritual guru detailed how the Assam Accord, which was signed by former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi, never came into an act leading to the formation of CAA.
At a time Delhi police were criticised by several people including prominent Bollywood celebrities for assaulting the Jamia Millia University students who were protesting against the CAA, Sadhguru in a way slammed the students for "throwing stones" from inside the campus.
"When police enter the university campus, innocent student standing beside the one who is throwing stones gets beaten up unfortunately...," he said.
The country has witnessed widespread protests against the CAA over the last few weeks. Also, some protests had turned violent in Assam, Tripura, West Bengal, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh.
In support of the CAA, Modi on Monday launched a campaign with #IndiaSupportsCAA in his NaMo App.
