Jodhpur, Mar 31 (IBNS): An Indian Air Force MiG-27 fighter jet crashed on Sunday morning at Rajasthan's Sirohi, media reports said.

The pilot was ejected safely.

The MiG 27 UPG aircraft, which flew from Uttarlai Air Force base in Barmer, faced engine issues.

It crashed around 11:45 am in Godana near Sheoganj in Sirohi, which is about 120 km south of Jodhpur.

"An Indian Air Force MiG-27 (Upgrade) aircraft got airborne from Air Force Station Uttarlai, Rajasthan at 1127 hrs today for a routine sortie. The aircraft crashed at 1145 hrs, approximately 120 km south of Jodhpur," an IAF statement said.

The pilot was ejected safely and has been recovered by Search and Rescue helicopter.

Preliminary investigations have revealed no damage to any person or property on ground.

A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to investigate the cause of the accident.

The MiG-27 belongs to Soviet-era and was used as a ground-attack aircraft.

It was bought by India in the early 1980s.
