Lucknow, Jan 16 (IBNS) : Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav said on Monday that he will contest against son Akhilesh Yadav in the coming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, if the son does not listen to him.

"I am trying my best to save the party and the 'cycle.' If Akhilesh does not listen to me, I will fight against him," Mulayam Singh said while addressing party su,pporters  the day the Election Commission is expected to take a decision on the 'cycle' symbol of the embattled party.

The 78-year-old leader, who faces a bitter rebellion from  Akhilesh, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, said he had called the son thrice for rapprochement, only to be ignored.

"I called Akhilesh thrice, but he came only for a minute and left even before talks could start," Mulayam Singh said.

"Akhilesh has turned Muslims against the SP," he said alleging that Akhilesh gave an impression that SP is an anti-Muslim party.

"I will seek people’s support to fight against Akhilesh. He is hobnobbing with rivals," he said.

The SP founder and his son and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav have been asserting their respective claims over the party's election symbol.

Mulayam Singh said he that he will be happy with whatever symbol EC decides for their party.

He, however, said the the party will suffer due to rift in the upcoming elections.

After a feud between Yadav and his son, Akhilesh Yadav, the EC, after hearing both the sides on Friday, had reserved its verdict on the issue.
