Hyderabad: Visually challenged elderly couple lives with son's body for 4 days not knowing he is dead

Hyderabad/IBNS: A visually challenged elderly couple lived with the body of their 30-year-old son for four days not knowing or realising that he was dead, media reports said.

The couple's neighbours in Hyderabad's Blinds Colony noticed a foul smell coming from the house and called the police on Monday.

According to reports, the man, Kaluva Ramana, is a retired government employee and lives in a rented apartment with his wife, Shantikumari, and younger son, Pramod.

Ramana and Shantikumari, both over 60 years old, tried calling out to Pramod for food and water but did not get any response. Since their voices were feeble, the neighbours could not hear them, the police told the media.

The elderly couple were in a semi-conscious state when police reached the house. They were rescued and given food and water.

Pramod, an alcoholic, probably died in his sleep four to five days ago after his wife and daughters left him. His body has been sent for a post-mortem, said reports.

Ramana and Shantikumar's elder son, Pradeep, who lives in another part of the city, was informed, and they were entrusted to his care.
