Hyderabad/IBNS: A man has allegedly stabbed a young woman, his girlfriend, 18 times in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

The accused, said to have been the victim's boyfriend, attacked her because she recently refused to marry him.

The incident took place inside a room she was staying at in Hastinapuram under the LB Nagar police station limits that falls under Greater Hyderabad.

According to reports, the man, identified as Basavaraj, was angry after the girl got engaged to another man, Shridhar, two months ago.

Both of them hail from Daulatabad in Vikarabad district and are said to have been in a relationship.

The victim, Sirisha, is said to be in a serious condition in the hospital.

The accused has been arrested and is in police custody.
