Husband will be responsible for wife's injuries caused by relatives: Supreme Court

New Delhi/IBNS: The Supreme Court Monday said a husband will be responsible for the wife's injuries caused even by the relatives in her matrimonial home, media reports said.

The apex court denied a pre-arrest bail to a man who had allegedly beaten his wife.

However, the man pleaded that the injuries inflicted on him were by his relatives.

When the husband's counsel was insisting on anticipatory bail, Chief Justice of India Sharad Arvind Bobde said as quoted by News 18, "What kind of a man are you? She alleges that you were about to kill her by strangulation. She alleges that you forced a miscarriage. What kind of man are you to use a cricket bat to beat up your wife?"

Earlier, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had earlier said, "The complainant’s MLR reveals as many as ten injuries on her person including five on her head/face, one on her vagina and multiple reddish bruises of varying sizes around her neck. Eight of the ten injuries are medically opined to have been inflicted by a blunt weapon.”

The wife had also alleged she had suffered miscarriage twice due to the assault.
