Hooda aide slapped with sedition charges allegedly for inciting violence
Chandigarh, Feb 25 (IBNS) A close aide of former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has been booked on sedition charges by the Haryana police on Wednesday, according to media reports.
It has been alleged that Professor Virender Singh, a close aide of the former CM, has been heard on an audio clip, inciting violence during the Jat quota agitation.
Reportedly, the police registered an FIR against a complaint filed by a Bhiwani resident, Pankar Kumar.
Taking to the media, Haryana Police DGP Yashpal Malik said that an FIR has been registered in Rohtak against Virender Singh and Man Singh Dalal, who also allegedly figured in the taped conversation, under various sections of the IPC, including sections 124-A (sedition) and section 120-B (conspiracy).
According to media reports, Singh, who has not denied that the voice is his, said the tape has been doctored and he has not instigated the Jats or anyone.
The tape is yet to be forensically tested.
The Congress served Singh a show cause notice on Tuesday.
The Jats had received a special OBC status by the preceding CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda in 2013, but that was stayed later by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2015.
