Hindutvawadi organisations demand to open all Hindu temples in Maharashtra
Kolhapur/UNI: The Hindutvawadi organisations, such as Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, have demanded that all Hindu temples in the state should be opened to the public with immediate effect by implementing social distancing and other regulations of the government.
In a press release circulated on Saturday, Sunil Ghanvat, state organizer of HJS for Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, said that a resolution to this effect had been passed and sent to the state government for implemention in an 'online' discussion, in which about 225 people including temple trustees, temple priests, heads of Mutts, devout Hindus and representatives of different Hindu organizations, participated.
Arguing that if the government could let liquor shops in the state to open for business while maintaining social distance, he asked why can't the government take a decision on similar guidelines and order to open all temples in the state.
Ghanvat said that in such dangerous times post-outbreak of coronavirus, faith alone could give emotional support to the society rather than liquor.
He further countered that if the government can look after the management of only Hindu temples in a secular country like India then why cannot it also do the same for mosques and churches.
He further argued that wherever the state had taken over the administration of the temples, there was rampant corruption by the government-appointed temple committees.
Ghanvat also said that the online discussion was a part of 'Rashtriya Mandir Sanskriti Raksha Abhiyan' (National Temple Cultural Protection campaign), started in All India Hindu Rashtra Convention and a resolution was passed to this effect with demanding to open all temples with implementing social distancing on the lines of other shops.
To justify his point, he said that even the President of the United States has recently called for opening the churches for preserving the people's faith rather than opening wine shops, he added.
