Srinagar/UNI: An encounter has raged between militants and security forces in Kashmir, the second in the last 15 hours.

The latest gun battle erupted in the Larri area of South Kashmir's Shopian district.

Officials on Wednesday night said the encounter erupted during a cordon and a search operation in the area following an input about militant presence.

“As the joint team of forces cordoned the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists opened fire triggering a gunfight,” a security official said.

Police and security forces are on the job, a tweet by police said.

Earlier in the day, two local militants were killed in a gun battle in the Tral area of Awantipora sub-district in south Kashmir.
