Srinagar/UNI: A gun battle raged between militants and security forces in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday evening, police said.

The gunfight broke out in the Batpora area of Kulgam when joint teams of forces launched a cordon and a search operation (CASO) following input about militants' presence.

"A contact with terrorists was established during the search operation in the area,” a police officer said.

A police spokesman said the security forces are on job.

This month nine militants have been killed in various gunfights in Kashmir.
