Gujarat: Morbi hospital painted ahead of Modi's visit to cover up flaws, claim AAP, Congress

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to the Morbi civil hospital, where the victims of the bridge collapse were admitted, has prompted refurbishment of the Gujarat medical facility to cover up its flaws, claimed the opposition Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Tuesday.

In some of the visuals, which India Blooms did not verify independently, hospital walls were seen being painted, tiling works were done, new water coolers and hospital beds were being installed.

Taking a dig at Modi's visit, the AAP, which is aspiring to come to power in Gujarat, tweeted, "Scene from Morbi Civil Hospital... The hospital is being repaired so that there is no shortage in the Prime Minister's photoshoot tomorrow.

"Had the BJP worked for 27 years, there would have been no need to light up the hospital at midnight."

Congress, the primary opposition camp, has put up a tweet which reads, "Tomorrow PM Modi will visit Civil Hospital in Morbi. Before that, the work of dyeing and painting is going on there. Glazed tiles are being installed.

"There should be no shortage in the picture of PM Modi, all arrangements are being made for it. They are not ashamed! So many people died and they are engaged in eventing."

Over 130 people died as the hanging bridge in Gujarat's Morbi collapsed Sunday evening when 500 devotees of Chhath Puja had gathered there.

Reportedly, the British-era bridge, which was reopened last week after renovation, was yet to get the fitness certificate

After police registered a First Information Report, nine people have been arrested.
