Ahmedabad, Aug 28 (IBNS) The Gujarat High Court on Friday ordered a CID probe into the custodial death of Shwetang Patel who was detained on August 25 following clashes with police during pro-reservation agitation by members of the Patel community.

According to postmortem reports, Patel’s death took place due to a head injury. The court also ordered Bapu Nagar police station to record an FIR into the custodial killing of the youth.

The court ordered  CID to investigate the case stating that an officer outside the Bapu nagar police station jurisdiction will  conduct an inquiry and submit the report to CID. A Magisterial inquiry has also been ordered by the court.

Violence had broken out in parts of Gujarat on Tuesday as the economically dominant Patel community held a huge protest demanding Other Backward Class (OBC) status.
