Patna, April 13 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): Ground water available in at least three districts of Bihar is not fit for drinking, as per a latest report of the Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED).

The three districts where the ground water is highly polluted with heavy presence of arsenic/iron contents are Bhojpur, Khagaria and Begusarai.

As per a report appearing in a local Hindi daily, the startling revelation came to light after examination of ground water samples taken from across the state by the department concerned to test its drinking quality.

Reports said the department concerned had taken 654,000 ground water samples from across the state to test their quality.

Of these, 154,000 samples were found to be polluted which comes to around 23.48 percent of the total samples taken, as per the report.

Reports said in the polluted water, the arsenic, iron and fluoride contents were found to be much higher than the permissible limit.

As per reports, the ground waters in 33 out of Bihar’s total 38 districts are polluted.
