Govt issues order to bring online portals, content providers under regulation

| @indiablooms | Nov 11, 2020, at 05:23 pm

New Delhi/IBNS: The government has issued an order to bring all online news portals and content providers under the Information and Broadcasting Ministry's regulation, media reports said.

The notification, which has been signed by President Ram Nath Kovind, was issued on Monday.

At the present moment, there is no law or an autonomous body to govern digital content available on multiple Over-the-top (OTT) platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar.

The print media is now governed by the Press Council of India (PCI) while the news channels are regulated by the News Broadcasters Association (NBA).

Films are regulated by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
